The Mertens Group presents at the 2025 Saving Places Conference

Forensic Engineer and Owner of The Mertens Group, Karl Mertens, MS, PE, along with Larry Lucas (Colorado Main Street Program) and Adam Berry (Colorado Energy Office) presented at the Colorado conference, titled “Behind the Façade: Exploring Main Streets’ Buildings and Their Codes,” during the 2025 Saving Places Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  

The presentation emphasized crucial insights on the State of Colorado’s 2021 adopted building codes, including the International Building Code, the International Existing Building Code, accessibility requirements, and the International Energy Efficiency Code, particularly in relation to historic preservation and its impact on historic buildings.
